The fight for family

5 kids are diagnosed with cancer every day in Malaysia.

How much is a life worth? What if a child with cancer can’t afford the price? The high cost of cancer care can force a family to abandon treatment, this being a major cause of treatment failure. The worst part is that most childhood cancers can be cured.

Can you imagine the overwhelming stress of visiting your newborn in hospital after hours of travelling? Not being able to be near your child when they need you most? You would need all the help you can get. Families are at their most vulnerable when facing the challenges of childhood cancer. The financial strains of treatment are demanding and the psychological toll on families is immense.

A place to call home

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) understands that treating cancer goes beyond hospital time. NCSM provides education, care and crucial support to people affected by cancer. NCSM’s holistic approach makes sure that affordability doesn’t determine who lives and dies.

The childhood cancer centre, Children’s Home of Hope, gives free accommodation to patients and caregivers undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals in Kuala Lumpur.

Keeping families together in the most difficult battle they will have to face is key to successful treatment.

Children’s Home of Hope provides the essential support families need, and connects people enduring the same difficult journey. From counselling to recreational activities, Children’s Home of Hope offers total care to the families who need it most.

Micah’s home away from home

Micah was just 9 months old when he was diagnosed with childhood cancer. Everything changed for his mother Clare on that fateful day. Micah’s stomach was swollen and he had a relentless fever. After a frantic race to the hospital Clare was told that her baby boy had Stage 4 neuroblastoma.

The news was devastating.

Micah’s family had to travel from Sabah to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for his treatment. Children’s Home of Hope lifted the burden of this hellish experience, “At the Home, it feels like heaven for me and my child” said Clare.

Celebrating Life

NCSM strives for a future without cancer. Till that day comes, NCSM is dedicated to providing the best possible care and support for those affected by cancer. To empower and support patients and their caregivers so that no one has to face cancer alone.
